About this piece

From One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, Hiroshige's image of travelers caught in a sudden downpour on the Shin Ohashi bridge is one of his most recognizable designs. Dark clouds roll across the top of the sheet, the rain falls in fine straight lines, and a lone boatman poles a raft across the river. Our print is made from the Art Institute of Chicago's open-access scan of this impression.
