About this piece
Van Gogh drew these cypresses with pen and reed pen in brown inks over graphite, turning each mass of foliage into curling, flame-like strokes, with a low farmhouse and hills at the lower left. It is a large sheet for a drawing, 62.5 by 46.4 cm, and its proportions sit close to 3:4. This reproduction is made from the Art Institute of Chicago's open-access file.
